30th Colchester Scout Group originates from about 1920 at the Boys High School in Wellesley Road. It transferred to Christ Church in Ireton Rd about 1949 and then moved to the Mission Hall King Harold Rd.
Our parents and friends raised money, and we purchased land to built our own headquarters in Rayner Road Shrub End which was opened in 1974. It was home to over 100 young people each week. Our building was demolished in the summer 2024 due to it being no longer fit for purpose.
We are very privileged to have been given a S106 Building Award by Colchester City Council and our new building should be completed by spring 2026. The new building is totally accessible and as sustainable and ecologically friendly as is possible.
We have Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Each Section has a waiting list and a termly subscription charge will be made once the young person has been invested. All Scouting in totally inclusive and we are proud to be a Neurodivergent and Disability Friendly safe space for our local young people. Our Leaders are all Volunteers who have completed the training to provide a space for our young people to learn skills for life, make new friends and have lots of fun.
30th Colchester Scout Group wear a Royal Blue Scarfe.
At present Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs meet in Lexden Primary School on a Tuesday Evening and Scouts meet at Prettygate Junior School on a Monday Evening.
